Multipliers: The People Who Built Your Confidence

🍁 This Thanksgiving, I’m starting a short series called Multipliers. It’s about how gratitude doesn’t just feel good, it grows your confidence.

Many dads and sons played football, but my dad and I built computers.

It was our thing.

I learned everything I know about work in his office. Watching him persevere made me believe I could work for anything.

But I never told him.

Because I’m a man. That kind of talk can feel sappy. I worried about what he’d think if I said it out loud.

I didn’t realize I was leaving confidence on the table.

🎮 Cheat Code: The Bounce Back

We spend so much time worrying about what people will think – even when expressing appreciation.

But here's the thing:

Chasing approval multiplies anxiety. Appreciating people multiplies confidence.

Here’s how to make it simple.

  1. Find one person who helped you build confidence
  2. Write down what they did and how it helped you grow.
  3. Share it. Text, call, or in person.

It doesn’t have to be a big, life-changing story. It could be someone who encouraged you to share or supported you when you were afraid.

When we’re grateful for our confidence builders, three things happen:

  1. We gain confidence by speaking our mind.
  2. They gain confidence knowing they made a difference.
  3. We start living from what we have instead of what we lack.

That’s how confidence multiplies.

⭐ Win of the Week

It took years, but I finally told my dad what that meant to me.

Even for a stoic like him, his face cracked a smile.

We didn’t suddenly become the father-and-son duo that cries together, but I did find it easier to tell him emotional things.

I had more confidence stored up than I realized. And before we moved on, my dad said one thing:

You can be that encouragement for someone else”

Your Turn

Appreciating people in your life is a confidence multiplier. It’s the gift that keeps on giving.

So, find your people. Get specific. Share. Everybody wins.
