Confidently Meet People with the Treasure Hunt Trick

Confidently Meet People with the Treasure Hunt Trick

You’re playing your favorite game.

And you’re probably feeling excitement, joy and fun. But do you know who you’re not thinking about?

EA Sports. Nintendo. Or whoever made it.

Meeting people can be fun too. But to do it with confidence, remember: it’s not about you.

It’s a treasure hunt.

🎮 Confidence Cheat Code: The Treasure Hunt

We often try to impress new people with our jobs, stories or travel.

Ironically, that actually fuels more anxiety.

But meeting people isn’t about us, it’s a treasure hunt to find what’s interesting about them.

Most people open with this boring question:

“So what do you do?”

Instead, start the treasure hunt. Play this icebreaker game.

Work: “Tell me why you chose your job and I’ll try to guess it”
School: “Tell me why you chose your major and I’ll guess it”

Keep guessing, ask for hints, and make it fun. Asking why is the best way to uncover interesting things about people.

Playing this game does three amazing things:

  1. You set the tone (confidence move)
  2. They feel good (people remember this)
  3. You have real conversation (no small talk)

Everybody wins.

⭐ Win of the Week

After my friend left an event, I found myself standing alone. My worst nightmare.

Then someone walked in. I decided this was my chance. I said hello and played my little game.

We ended up talking for an hour. But the best part came as he was leaving.

“Thank God you came up to me. I actually get stressed when I walk in and don’t know anyone.”

Got a win? Reply and I’ll share it here (anonymously) to inspire others.

I’m working on a new reward system for Roadmap

Each time you log an anxious moment, you’ll bank miles for that challenge.

The bigger the fear, the more miles you earn.

Check out the early mockups and let me know what you think. And if you haven’t played Roadmap yet, try it out!

Your Turn

Meeting people isn’t about you. It’s a treasure hunt to find what’s interesting about them. When you find it, you’re confident and memorable.

Everybody wins.
